VIRTUAL COURSE: Asthma Educator AE-C Prep/Recertification Review Course


Our Course Sponsor is the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services, and The Montana Asthma Control Program along with AAE.  We are excited to offer this course Virtually to all who wish to participate!

Course Goal:

Present an in-depth review of asthma education based on the NBRC detailed content outline for cerification.

Objectives
(1) Explain trends in asthma prevalence.

(2) Determine individual patient’s levels of severity and control.

(3) Evaluate barriers to adherence as they apply to self-assessment and self-management of asthma.

(4) Utilizing problem based learning, optimize a plan of care for patients’ with asthma.


Traci D. Arney MN, FNP-C, AE-C, FAANP

Traci graduated from Washington State University in 1996 with a Master of Nursing and Family Nurse Practitioner.   She has many publications and presentations focused on pediatric asthma diagnosis, management, and education.  She developed Banner Health System's pediatric asthma program that continues to offer asthma education to all families admitted with an acute asthma exacerbation.  She was an emeritus member of the National Asthma Education Certification Board and participated on the exam committee for 15 years .  She was inducted into the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Fellow program June 2009. She is currently the owner operational manager/Nurse Practitioner for Crazy About Kids Pulmonary Services, LLC.  This practice focuses on pediatric pulmonary disease processes and has an emphasis on patient education.  The practice encompasses Dr. Kelvin Panesar and Traci as the providers of services.


Karen L.  Gregory, DNP, APRN, CNS, RRT, AE-C, FAARC

Dr. Karen Gregory is an Acute Care Advance Practice Nurse with a specialty in asthma, allergy, and pulmonary medicine. She is a Registered Respiratory Therapist and has been a Certified Asthma Educator since 2002.  Dr. Gregory is an advanced practice provider at the Oklahoma Allergy and Asthma, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and is an Assistant Professor at Georgetown University, School of Nursing and Health Studies.

 Dr. Gregory holds active memberships and leadership positions in multiple professional organizations serving on boards, committees, and projects. She is an active member of the Association of Asthma Educator’s and Association for Respiratory Care. Dr. Gregory serves as Co-Chair for the American Academy of Allergy Asthma and Immunology Allied Health. She is a past-president of the Association of Asthma Educators

 Dr. Gregory’s clinical interests include asthma disparity in the Medicaid and rural populations, severe asthma, food allergy, autism and asthma and COVID-19. Dr. Gregory lectures on issues related to allergy, asthma and disease management and is published in these areas.
