This comprehensive Asthma Educator Certification (AE-C) Review Course is designed for healthcare professionals seeking to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to provide comprehensive, evidence-based asthma care and education for patients with asthma and their families, while also preparing those wanting to take the AE-C certification exam. The curriculum covers essential topics, including asthma prevalence, goals of therapy, pathophysiology, factors contributing to disease severity, pharmacotherapy, medication administration, symptom monitoring, co-morbidities, and optimizing patient education.
A key feature of this course is its emphasis on the practical application of core concepts through interactive case studies, enabling participants to refine their clinical reasoning and patient education strategies. While this course serves as an excellent preparation for the Asthma Educator Certification (AE-C) exam, it is also open to healthcare professional, including advanced practice providers, physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, and pharmacists who wish to expand their knowledge of asthma management and enhance their patient education skills. By completing this course, participants will develop a deeper understanding of asthma care and gain the confidence to effectively educate and empower patients and their families in managing this chronic condition and contribute to improved health outcomes.
This specialized session is a comprehensive 12-hour course led by expert faculty from the Association of Asthma Educators. All instructors are AE-Cs and active members of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. This course has demonstrated success in preparing participants for the Asthma Educator Certification (AE-C) exam. Participants are equipped with essential knowledge and confidence needed to achieve the AE-C certification.
This course provides hands-on teaching of asthma devices, including metered-dose inhalers, dry powdered, inhalers, soft mist inhalers, nebulizers, peak flow meters.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe the underlying mechanisms of asthma, including airway inflammation, bronchoconstriction, and hyperresponsiveness, and analyze epidemiological trends to identify risk factors, prevalence, and disparities in asthma care
- Explain the role of various pharmacologic therapies in asthma management, proper administration techniques, and patient adherence strategies
- Apply evidence-based strategies to educate patients and families on asthma self-management, including symptom monitoring, trigger avoidance, medication adherence, and the use of asthma action plans
